Summer Fairytales: The Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre's Puppet Show and Workshop
Free of charge

Due to popular demand, the Queens Historical Society has arranged for Central Park's widely acclaimed Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre to return again this year to the playground in Weeping Beech Park, bordering Kingsland Homestead to put on a spectacular puppet show and conduct a unique puppet making workshop as a treat to the community. Bring the whole family and come join QHS once again this summer for this very special summer treat from our friends at Central Park's Swedish Marionette Theatre. We are looking forward to this event as much as you are!

Jan-Piet Knijff is Organist-in-Residence of the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College/CUNY where he teaches organ, historical keyboard instruments, and chamber music. This fall, he will also be teaching organ and musicology at Purchase College/SUNY. A native of Haarlem, the Netherlands, JP won both the first prize and the Audience Prize at the International Bach Competition in Lausanne, Switzerland. He holds the Artist Diploma from the Conservatory of Amsterdam and the Doctor of Musical Arts degree from The City University of New York, where he is now a candidate for the Ph.D. in musicology.

JP has contributed articles to journals such as The Tracker, Het Orgel, and the American Bach Society Newsletter. For The Organ Encyclopedia (New York: Routledge, 2006), he wrote articles on various European organ builders and co-authored the "Periodicals" article. This fall, he will be presenting a paper at an international symposium on Bach's B-minor Mass in Belfast ( Ireland).

J-P is an exceptional performer, educator and scholar. He has been engaged by QHS to celebrate the recently restored Carhart and Needham 1861 Melodeon in our collection. The restoration and this three concert series was completed funded by a generous grant from the Historic House Trust of New York City.
