These three buildings are located on the same side of 35th Avenue between 74h Street and 76th Street. They were selected both for their individual qualities as well as for overall effect that they create as on travels along 35th Avenue.
Buckingham Hall
The Buckingham, built in 1935 by the architects Seelig
and Finkelstein is a Mediterranean style, six story brick apartment
building and has a central recessed garden entrance, flanked on top by two
rectangular lookout towers with terracotta tile roofs.
Beech Court
The Beech Court
building is actually a pair of new-gothic six-story buildings arranged as
one, with tow deep garden courtyards in front. Architects' Ricca and
Ungaleider designed it in 1930.
The Colton Buildings
The third building, the Colton, is also six-stories,
but designed in a Georgian style. All three buildings have private
interior landscaped gardens.
Their find scale, excellent use of materials and
details, respect for the street, give this particular stretch of 35th Ave.
and aura of civility not unlike that of Park Avenue in
Manhattan.
